Inspired by a refined aesthetic achieved through years of worldly travels, the solid masonry home takes inspiration and design cues from country homes visited in France and Italy, combined with a curated attention to detail creating something very special.

European inspired luxury was the background that took the initial lead for the look of the home, and Auckland architect Alister Kitchen was assigned the task of adapting the owners extensive wish list and brief. The choice of solid masonry construction (Firth Hot Bloc) evolved as part of the original brief for the home to be strong, quiet, warm in winter and cool in summer. Over the ensuing years, the home has settled into it’s surroundings and been enjoyed, but with more travel came more ideas and a comprehensive and extensive refurbishment throughout the home was completed in 2017/18. This renewal not only embraced the early design principles used, but added to the solid early foundation all the while reflecting the matured and considered approach needed to merge and unify an updated look.

The northeast facing aspect of the 2948m2 section includes a wide gully frontage, and inspired along the principles used by well-known international garden designer Paul Bangay, the extensively landscaped established gardens feature hedged and walled areas creating outdoor rooms in which to view the bushy gully aspect beyond the expansive lawns.

The timeless design, together with a myriad of thoughtful details, combine to create a feeling of genuine warmth and generous welcome. The considered architectural design provides an easy connection between the indoors and out. It’s a journey within the destination, a real sense of space.
